Even though I can't put a rug on my hardwood floors for weeks (to let them cure and all that) I have been shopping. I have two rugs that I am considering and need a little input from you--my lovely readers. My kitchen/family room area is all going pretty neutral--white cabinets, soapstone counters, dark floors, white subway tile, near white walls, and white molding and mantel. I even think I will do natural linen roman shades in the family room windows. The furniture will be neutral as well. So I want to bring in a little color. And since I have these lovely blue depression glass dishes that will show in the new glass front cabinets, I am thinking blue. Here are some of the dishes:
. . . and here are two rugs I have been considering. On is more than three times the price of the other--can you guess which one. And which do you like better. (I have a lot of contemporary/ transitional furniture and would like to bring in a few traditional elements.
So, what do you think?

I like the top one mainly because of the small, intricate designs. Is that the more expensive one? The bottom one, however, seems to have more of the blue in it. So either one would be fine, I'm sure.
I like the top one. It appears to have a few different shades of blue and neutrals that should work well with its surroundings. Really draw the eye to pick up other blues placed here and there. Plus it seems a bit darker and with it being in the kitchen....need I say more!
I like the pattern of the top one, but the coloring of the bottom one. Good luck. It took us forever to find a rug we liked.
I love the top rug as it is more of a grey blue that I like. If I can give some advice on rugs, keep it as neutral as possible and in the palest colours possible unless you want it to be the highlight of your room. I have a small living room and bought a busy patterned rug and it competes with every pattern in the room and dominates all my choices. Since it is my main pattern, I end up using solid pillows and solid drapes and so on to try to keep the room quiet. If I had it to do over again, I'd do a solid rug in a neutral shade, which would then let me use any art on my walls and change my pillows to patterns. Just a thought!
Finding a rug is exhausting. It is the worst part of decorating.
